Social Media for Not-for-Profits is especially difficult, with small budgets and understaffing, this means someone is always eager to find effective tools that are simple, easy and cost effective. With a seemingly endless list of possible social media tools out there, we have chosen our top 7 social media tools for Not-for-Profits.
Social Media Management/ Scheduling Tools
1. Hootsuite
Without a doubt, I am sure I can say that you have heard of Hootsuite. It has been the talk of the social media town for a while now, and we think it’s excellent. Time is of the essence for social media posters and having all your content in one place for posting is essential to enhance your communication with followers in whatever channel they prefer. Hootsuite allows for a streamline process for filtering and delivering content directly to your target market. Added Value: You can try it for free first!
2. Buffer
Buffer is a tool that allows you to post and share to all your network sites. This tool is more of a scheduling tool than an overall social media management tool and Not-For-Profits can take advantage of this. Buffer allows you to post to Twitter, Facebook profiles and pages, LinkedIn Profile and groups. All you have to do is check which sites you want to post on and it gets added to the queue.

4. Social Rank
Social Rank is an easy way to identify and organise your followers or Twitter and Instagram. Why is this so useful? If you have the capability to identify users by “Most Valuable” “Best Follower” and more, you can start saving those lists and sorting. This means you can create custom lists that you can export and run campaigns for. Every Not-For-Profits is aware that the most coveted skill is attracting and maintaining an influx of new donors. With Social Rank it helps identify individuals already interested in having a relationship with your organisation, making it easier for Not-for-Profits to win over. Find out who your most valuable followers are and start marketing!

This tool is all about gaining insight into your Facebook platform. Ever wondered “Where in the world are my friends?” or “How popular are my friends?” Put this tool to use by marketing on your own personal Facebook pages, if you have an organisation ambassador, this tool can ensure your key messages are transmitted and received to a multitude of online users. It is all about optimising the type of content you share to your profile.
2015 Trending Tool – Number 7
Above is our list of favourite tools for managing, scheduling and posting on Twitter and Facebook, however our number 7 tool that we think is taking off this year is IFTTT – Get ready for this tool to become your best friend.
So the IFTTT stands for ‘If This Then That’. It is basically a web based service that triggers a combination of actions to happen through “recipes”. What do I mean? Let me explain.
I just posted on the Digital Animals account that “We’ve moved, 2A Bridge Road, Richmond, 3121.” And I set the “This” part of the recipe to – “if this is shared by a user”. Then, the “That” triggers an action to be performed. The “That” in this case would be “like the post by user” or “follow them back”, whatever I like.
So the recipe here is:
A Digital Animals post is shared by a User, this results in Digital Animals liking their shared post.
We can’t stress it enough, this tool presents value to any business but especially for Not-For-Profits. It is an easy and effective way to engage with users and there is no need to constantly sit at the computer for hours on end trying to acknowledge all your followers. The best way to build a relationship to turn your prospect into a valued member of your clientele is to engage, and now you have a service that can do it for you! We think IFTTT gives “creative control over products and apps” to allow for greater audience engagement and ultimately ROI.
